C.H.E.R.U.B. Brigand M.C. by Robert Muchamore
Before Dante joined CHERUB he lived with a motorcycle gang father, the gang was called Brigand, and his mother and 3 siblings. He lived a happy life, well that was until he father, mother, brother and oldest sister where killed by the gangs leader. This was all because Dante dad preferred history over money and didn’t want to lose the gangs clubhouse. So after 5 years it is up to James, Lauren and Dante to go back and try and get the leader arrested for gun crimes. But will he remember Dante and will Dante be able to hold himself back after he sees the man who killed his whole family and tried to kill him?
What did I think?
I really liked this book and there were a few reasons why. This is probably one of the darker books in the series and this is something I really enjoyed, as the series is coming to an end and James is turning 17 then the target audience has changed from children aged between 8-11 to what I think is old teenagers and young adults. This book contains murder, sex, drugs, guns and very violent points. But this all just shows you how dangerous the life of the agents at CHERUB are.
So for the mission to work Dante has to get all of his body haired dyed from his normal read hair to a more blonde colour to match Lauren who is going to be acting as his twin sister. I loved reading about how he was able to react after having to become best friend with the gang leader youngest son Joe again as before the murder of his family he was already best friends with Joe.
For me the best part of the whole book was at the end of the mission, Dante had let his feelings of hatred over come him and went onto a path where he was set to kill the gang leader. He was there with the crosshairs aimed at the old fat mans heart. And that is where Robert decided to end the chapter, I loved that giving the reader a reason why they had to carry on reading to find out if this 13 year old was capable of killing the man who killed his family.
I am a big fan of motorcycles and it is a dream of mine to drive down route 66 on a Harley Davidson, with some AC/DC blasting. So when I was reading and found out that you can only be part of the gang if you own a Harley Davidson I kind of fan boy’d a little bit. Well that was until I found out what they actually do at the gang, good taste in bikes terrible taste in lives. James is trying to get part of the gang but he doesn’t get a Harley but get a Kawasaki instead, but at 17 I wouldn’t of complained a little bit.
Overall this book is great, with a lot of graphic scenes of violence. So only read if you like that sort of the thing but please don’t if you are a younger audience I don’t want you getting weird nightmares or being scared of motorcycles.
