Black Widow Forever Red by Margaret Stohl Review

I am a massive fan of marvel and anything that has got super powers, so when I found out that there was a book based on the Black Widow then you know that I had to go out and buy this book. So now I have read it and that means it is time to review it.

Natasha Romanoff is one of the world’s most lethal assassins. Trained from a young age in the arts of death and deception, Natasha was given the title of Black Widow by Ivan Somodorov, her brutal teacher at the Red Room, Moscow’s infamous academy for operatives.

Ava Orlova is just trying to fit in as an average Brooklyn teenager, but her life has been anything but average. The daughter of a missing Russian quantum physicist, Ava was once subjected to a series of ruthless military experiments-until she was rescued by Black Widow and placed under S.H.I.E.L.D. protection. Ava has always longed to reconnect with her mysterious savior, but Black Widow isn’t really the big sister type.

Until now.

When children all over Eastern Europe begin to go missing, and rumors of smuggled Red Room tech light up the dark net, Natasha suspects her old teacher has returned-and that Ava Orlova might be the only one who can stop him. To defeat the madman who threatens their future, Natasha and Ava must unravel their pasts. Only then will they discover the truth about the dark-eyed boy with an hourglass tattoo who haunts Ava’s dreams. . . .

My Opinion

So like I said before I love all things marvel, so I am happy to say that I am really happy with how this book turned out. I didn’t do any research into this book at all, I saw it on one of my favourite book tubers videos and I paused it and bought it on amazon with prime and skipped that section of the video.  My intial thought when I got the book was that I was going to learn a little bit about the back story of the Black widow, and this book shows us how she became who she is now and when she doesn’t show any sort of feelings.

There are three main characters in this book and two of those aren’t the black widow are either related to her or be able to get inside of her memory. Ava and Alex are two people that are very important to the Black Widows life even though until before this story she never knew it. Alex is her brother but you don’t find this out until late into the book, while Ava is the person she saved from the person who made her the way she is. However because of an experiment that happened Ava is able to use the Black Widows memory and make herself be able to do anything  that she does.

For me this was a really good read and I have seen that some sites have given it a slightly lower then expected rating. I can see why this is as for me it is now where near the best book I have read but I did enjoy reading. I loved hearing about the relationship that was developing with Ava and Alex, and how near the end of the book the Black Widow was starting to warm up to the idea of Alex being her brother and Ava being something of a sister to her.

Overall the story was good with a lot of action and very little non relevant parts which always helps when reading about a superhero. Even the journey from one country to another was spent researching different ways in which they could do things or learning something about one of the main character pasts.

The part of me that was let this book down was the descriptions of certain areas. For example when something was important to the story it was described in a lot of detail making it very easy to imagine what it looked like, for other certain places that are included in the story but isn’t major then its description is terrible. This was clear to me from when we were first introduced to the Alex and nothing about the outside of the house was described even the Black Widow was looking at him from the house across the road.

Overall for me, I did enjoy reading this and if there was going to be a sequel then I would read that too, the only improvement I would recommend is that the descriptions of certain areas is increased making it easier on the audience to imagine what is happening. The story is great and as full of action, something that I have come to expect from the black widow.

Anyway I have been Aaron Morrsi and ill see you next time.
