Creed (2015) Movie Review

I saw the trailer for creed a few weeks ago and I really wanted to see it, so luckily for me my brother also wanted to see the movie. So after seeing the movie I wanted to tell you all what my feelings where on the movie.

Adonis Johnson (Michael B. Jordan) never knew his famous father, boxing champion Apollo Creed, who died before Adonis was born. However, boxing is in his blood, so he seeks out Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) and asks the retired champ to be his trainer. Rocky sees much of Apollo in Adonis, and agrees to mentor him, even as he battles an opponent deadlier than any in the ring. With Rocky’s help, Adonis soon gets a title shot, but whether he has the true heart of a fighter remains to be seen.

My opinion

I have always liked the Rocky movie series, whenever I saw it was going to be on telly I made sure I could watch it as there was something I really loved about the movie.  So after hearing about what the story was going to be on this movie I got really excited, it seemed like it was going to be another underdog trying his hardest to show what he is worth, with a slight twist.

So for me I thought the acting in this movie wasn’t amazing but it was still good. The best actor in this movie has got to be Michael B. Jordan; I could see the passion in his acting when he was acting which would be extremely hard to do especially while getting punched repeatedly. For me I have never really liked Sylvester Stallone as an actor but I do think he had some great moments in this movie. In my opinion the best moment for me with Stallone was when he found out he had cancer, and his reaction was just amazing I even felt like crying. The other main character Tessa Thompson was okay in this movie, but I never felt for even though I felt like I should. The only part where I think she did really well was when she was talking to Adonis through a door and even then it was only the part where she turned her hearing aid off. So for me the acting in this movie was good but wasn’t great.

So what are the surroundings like? At first we are in LA, as that is where we get to see how Adonis was being brought up and can give us a little bit of a back story into his life and why he would want to get into boxing. Well its LA so of course it looks amazing and seeing how he is the son of Apollo Creed you know that the house he lives in is huge and his car is flashy. This shows us a different side of boxing especially when it is being compared to the original Rocky. So LA looks amazing but for me I loved it when the movie comes back to Philadelphia as it just seems like the perfect setting for a boxing movie, especially if rocky is going to be in it. When the movie goes into Phili then that is when I really started getting exicited while watching it as it brought back some of the memories I had while watching the orginal series but with an older rocky and better graphics.

The story, now this is the big one. For me the story is just like any other rocky movie expect every now and then it will throw in a twist to keep you happy and want to keep watching. We have a new fighter in Adonis, who wants to fight just like his dad but doesn’t want to use his name as he wants people to know him for his boxing not for his dad. However people find out about his dad when he wins a fight and the loser’s coach breaks promise with rocky and tells the world. So when the number 1 boxer finds out, he wants to challenge him before he goes to prision for having guns without a license. The number 1 boxer is a bit of an arsehole which can be expected in a boxing movie, but Adonis shows him what he can actually do in the ring and number 1 boxer respects him for it even though Adonis lost. Now can I say that the last round of that boxing match was the most intense thing I have seen in a long time, Adonis manages to knock the boxer to the ground – the boxer has never been to the ground before in a fight – and shows the world exactly what he can do, even though the boxer does manage to get back up allowing him to win the fight. However Adonis never cared about winning he just wanted to show the world what he could do. Another major part of the story line was where Rocky finds out that he has cancer, and without Adonis making him fight for his life Rocky was just going to give up so he could be with his wife and best friend. I didn’t think I would get the feels while watching a movie like this but I did and I think anyone who doesn’t has a heart made out of stone.

So for me this is a great movie with a great storyline with only good acting but it is still a movie I think everyone should go and watch.

Acting – 80/100

Surroundings – 90/100

Story – 100/100

Overall – 90/100
