We have now finished another series of Darren Shan, and you want to know something im a little bit sad that there isn’t another book to read in this series as I don’t want it to end, but it has so here is the review.
Time seemed to collapse…. There was a sharp stabbing sensation in my stomach…. Steve crowed, “Now I have you! Now you’re gonna die!”
Dead if he loses — damned if he wins. The time has finally come for Darren to face his archenemy, Steve Leopard. One of them will die. The other will become the Lord of the Shadows — and destroy the world.
Is the future written, or can Darren trick destiny?
This is Darren’s story.

So the big question for me when writing this review is, can Darren Shan write a good finale to a series? The answer to that is yes, he really bloody can. This finale has everything a finale to a book should have, so I am going to tell you about it without spoiling things too much.
For a long time now I wondered how Darren Shan was going to tell readers how he managed to get the first person point of view of the Darren Shan journey, I don’t want to tell you exactly how he did it but I have got to admit that a lot of people should take some advice from this and actually use it to explain more of their stories if possible.
So the way that this book was written there are two different parts to this book and I love this about it as it just gives us more information on the overall time of Darren Shans life. MAJOR SPOILER ALERT, IF YOU DON’T WANT TO BE SPOILT FOR THE WHOLE SERIES THEN SKIP TO NEXT CHAPTER NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Darren Shan dies but only does so because he allows Steve to kill him after giving Steve a lethal injury and Darren didn’t want either of them becoming the Lord of the Shadows so this was the only way to make sure that it never happened. In the second part of the book is about how Darren went to the lake of souls as he couldn’t forgive himself for what happened and needed to make everything right with himself, he gets a chance by being created in a little person. I just personally think that this makes a wonderful addition to an amazing story and I don’t think I can give Darren Shan any more praise then I already have with the way this book was written.
In traditional Darren Shan style the way this book is written you wont want to stop reading especially as you are wanting to know what is going to happen between Steve and Darren and who is going to come out victor, I was reading this just before I got to work and I have never before wanted to just not get of the bus and not go to work as I was almost at the end and wanted to find out who was going to win. Those were the longest 8 hours of my life.
The only bad part about this finale is that we don’t get to find out what happens with the rest of the the vampire clan, I would of liked to know what happened in the future with Vancha, Arrow or Mika. But if that is the only bad part of the game then you know how good of a book this is.
This has got to be one of the best endings of a series I have read for a long time, and for me it has got to be one of the hardest thing for an author to do and if done right then it is an amazing thing.
