It was during a trip to Waterstones I noticed that there was a new cover of the harry potter books and seeing how I don’t own any of the physical copies I had to go out and buy the first book and make my way through the series again.
Harry Potter thinks he is an ordinary boy. He lives with his Uncle Vernon, Aunt Petunia and cousin Dudley, who are mean to him and make him sleep in a cupboard under the stairs. (Dudley, however, has two bedrooms, one to sleep in and one for all his toys and games.) Then Harry starts receiving mysterious letters and his life is changed forever. He is whisked away by a beetle-eyed giant of a man and enrolled at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The reason: Harry Potter is a wizard! The first book in the “Harry Potter” series makes the perfect introduction to the world of Hogwarts.
Taken from goodreads
Of course I have read this book, so nothing in this book is going to be unexpected but that doesn’t mean I didn’t love every single second of reading this book. There is just something about reading writing from J.K.Rowling that will make the reader just want to keep reading no matter what. Even though this book is meant for younger children and me being 20 I still couldn’t put the book down. It made the 3 hour train journey back to uni a lot more fun as I was just engrossed into the book. Just to let you know this is a book I have read over 10 times, but with a gap of about 3 years between now and the last time I had read the book I just couldn’t wait to get back into the book.
Another good thing about this book is that even though the book is 330+pages you can still read the book in about 4 hours and it feels like the perfect amount of time.
In books that are mainly aimed at the younger audience I have seen some of the stories just be plain boring and predictable. This is one of the few that don’t do this, I can remember the first time of reading this book and finding the twist the in the last few chapters unbelievable I couldn’t help but have to re read the whole chapter again to see if had missed anything.
Overall I think this is going to be one of the best reads that anyone is going to read and I can clearly see what this was made into a classic very quickly into the books life. If you have never read the book but have seen the movie then I recommend you go and read the book as there are parts that aren’t in the movie and make it feel like a totally different item. I loved this read and cant wait to get onto the next one which should happen soon.
