Zom-B Underground by Darren Shan Review

This is the second book in the series and I started to read it as soon as I finished the review of the first book. I really enjoyed the first book so will the great work be extended to the second book or is this series a one trick pony.

Waking up in a military complex, months after zombies attacked school, B has no memory of the last few months. Life in the UK has turned tough since the outbreak, and B is woven into life- and battle- in the new military regime quickly. But as B learns more about the zombies held in the complex and the scientists keeping them captive, unease settles in. Why exactly was B saved? And is there anyone left in the world to trust?

My Opinion

After we were left on a cliff hanger with the last book you can’t blame me for wanting to get straight into the second book and finding out what was going to happen to B. I just find Darren Shan to be one of those kinds of writers where you just want to smash through a whole series in one go.

Strangely enough B turns into a Zom-B (I like what happened there with the title) but she is a little bit different in the fact she is able to control herself and be able to have her own thoughts and memories, which only a small amount of people have been able to do since being turned. Personally I should of seen this coming especially with the title and everything but for some reason I thought she would become the queen of the zombies but now I am not quite sure anymore. I still love everything written in this book because it always keeps you on your toes, whether that is a character development or even anew character being introduced you just have to keep reading to be able to find out as much as you possibly can and see if B is going to be okay in the end.

Like I said before I am loving everything that has been written in this book, from the introduction to new characters or just the description of how everything looks is just fantastic and makes being able to imagine what everything looks like so much easier. The story keeps you hooked as if you think you’re coming to a boring section then read on a couple more pages and something new is going to happen that will make you not want to put the book down. The best example I can think of this is a character which everyone thinks is a goody two shoes turns out to be playing a trick on everyone and is just binding his time for the perfect moment.

I do like the pictures that have been added to the book, they aren’t very often but when they are there then they make imagining what the character look like in a specific scene even easier. Also one of the pictures is of B having a whole in her chest from where her heart was ripped out and seeing that just made the book seem all that much more real.

Overall I think this is a great read and with the new introduction of character for the series I am going to be finding myself enjoy this series more than I thought I would. Of course this book ended on a cliffhanger so I just want to get back into reading the 3rd installment in the series so I cant wait to do that.
