Nerve by Jeanne Ryan Review

After watching the movie Nerve, I found out that it was actually taken from a book I had no idea existed. So that meant I had to go out and buy it and find out how the movie compares to the book, and that is exactly what this review is going to do.

Story

A high-stakes online game of dares turns deadly.

When Vee is picked to be a player in NERVE, an anonymous game of dares broadcast live online, she discovers that the game knows her. They tempt her with prizes taken from her ThisIsMe page and team her up with the perfect boy, sizzling-hot Ian. At first it’s exhilarating–Vee and Ian’s fans cheer them on to riskier dares with higher stakes. But the game takes a twisted turn when they’re directed to a secret location with five other players for the Grand Prize round. Suddenly they’re playing all or nothing, with their lives on the line. Just how far will Vee go before she loses NERVE?

My Opinion

If you have read my review on Nerve the movie then you know that I enjoyed just about everything about it, so you can imagine my excitement to be able to read what the movie was based off. However I quickly discovered that the book is so much better than the movie. For me after I have read the book the movie is still great but would of been so much better if it followed everything that the book had. I found the book to be so much darker and intense and made me not want to put the book down ever. I think this is the reason why I was able to finish the book in one day, almost one sitting if it wasn’t for a little thing called christmas getting in the way.

The two main characters Vee and Ian are some of the best character I have read about in some time, this is because you always want to find out more and the author does a good job of giving you more information as the book goes on to satisfy the thirst for knowledge. The book vee is a lot more confident in the book and joins Nerve for totally different reasons then the movie version, but either way she gets to be with Ian.

Like I said before you always want to know more and more about the two main characters and with the way the story has been written by the author you get this, but you also get to see the way that the two character develop into their own characters as well as a couple that you come to love very quickly. Ian goes from a character that you think will be a loner to someone who will do anything to protect Vee. While Vee goes from someone who is normally the person no one notices and is always in the shadow of her best friend to being the one person every notices and isn’t afraid to show the world who she really is.

Of course being the reader I am, I prefer the book to the movie by a long way as I just found the dares to be so much worse and more intense than what was on the movie. Plus with the added benefit of being able to imagine the way everywhere looked with the amazing writing from the author helped add to the atmosphere. The character development is fantastic, like I have said multiple times already but I felt like it had to be said again.

I recommend that people read this book if they like a good action story that you don’t ever want to end, and some many unexpected twist and turns you have got no idea how the story is going to end then this is the book for you.
