Stranger Things Season 1 Review

I have heard so many good things about this show that I had to give it a watch and see what I think of the show myself, plus season 2 comes out next month so perfect time to watch the show. Anyway, it is time for a review.

The story behind this series is that in a small town in 1980s Indiana some strange things have been happening. Four boys are playing dungeon and dragons, after the 10 hour session had finished they decided it is time to go home. It is while on the way home that one of the boys goes missing, because the town is so small it is noticed immeditally by everyone and the whole time help look for the boy. In the town there is a business called Hawkins National Labartory, they have secretly being doing experiments for the paranormal and supernatural, however due to a mistake they have made they have caused a lot of danger for the town.

The story is what makes this show as good as it is. The first episode is a bit slow but it is just the set up for the other seven episode. Once you have watched the first one you want to watch the other seven so you are able to find out what happened to will and how the town will cope with his loss, espically his three best friends. You want to know more about Hawkins lab and what exactly they are doing and who exactly this girl is. I think that this show has got the best story of any show I have watched in the last 3 years since starting this website. I loved everything about it and everything that you wanted to know you got to know, expect for one but that is the final part of the show.

It has been a long time since I watched anything where the main actors of the show was children, but dear god the 5 in this show showed the audience exactly what they are able to do, in some cases I think they out preformed the adults. My personal favourite has got to be Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin) I think he played his role very well, he seems to be the funny one of the group as he was always making jokes and seeming to be thinking about his belly 24/7. Of course the adults also did an amazing job, with actors like Winona Ryder (Joyce Byers), Charlie Heaton (Jonathon Byers) and David Harbour (Jim Hopper) doing amazing and showing their range of skills as an actor was amazing. I simply cant fault the acting in the show.

The show does have some scary scenes, this causes you to be tense for the basically the whole show as you never know when the next scary scene is going to come and if you are a big wimp like myself then this is both a great and a bad thing. You can tell that Duffer Brothers have taken inspiration from the works of Stephen King with this sort of horror. I think they did it amazingly as it is not all just jump scares and with the monster looking like nothing I have ever seen before I was quiet surprised to find myself not having nightmares.

If you like a good storyline, with good acting and being scared for a lot of the time while watching a show then this is going to be for you. I was expecting this to be a show that didn’t live up to the hype but thankfully it is just as good as people make it out to be and I am looking forward to the second season.
