Scott Pilgrim Volume 1: Scott Pilgrim’s Precious Little Life (Graphic Novel) Review

I really liked the movie Scott Pilgrim and it was while I was looking through Waterstones I saw the book series for the movie and I just had to buy it as I fancied a new graphic novel to read. Anyway, it is time for a review.

The story

Scott Pilgrim’s life is totally sweet. He’s 23 years old, he’s in a rock band, he’s “between jobs” and he’s dating a cute high school girl. Nothing could possibly go wrong unless a seriously mind-blowing, dangerously fashionable, rollerblading delivery girl named Ramona Flowers starts cruising through his dreams and sailing by him at parties. Will Scott’s awesome life get turned upside-down? Will he have to face Ramona’s seven evil ex-boyfriends in battle? The short answer is yes. The long answer is Scott Pilgrim, Volume 1: Scott Pilgrim’s Precious Little Life

Taken from Goodreads

This is a story like have never of before. You have got Scott Pilgrim a 23-year-old man who has got no job and a is a part-time bassist in a band with a high school girlfriend. That was before he starts to have dreams about this amazing girl and he eventually meets her. This is when the real story starts when they get closer and eventually start dating he now has to fight 7 of her evil ex. The story is great, it is very weird but I still think it is great. It has a bit of 4th wall breaking as well which you just have to love. They tell you which volume you are going to find out more about the life of the main characters which just makes you want to go out and buy the rest of the series so you are able to find out more about the characters.

The art style is very cartoony and I love it. I didn’t even know that the movie Scott Pilgrim had a graphic novel series so when I opened it up I was expecting it to look somewhat similar, I couldn’t have been more wrong. The cartoony style reminds me more of what adventure time does then the movie which is great. Of course seeing the fight scene in this style is great as well as you were able to see every little detail they put into the fight and we also find out something about Scott in this section which I bet not a single one of you could have guessed.

I do like the two main characters they use in the book, Scott is so awkward yet funny it just makes the whole book worth it. While Ramona is confident in herself and seems like the total opposite of Scott but for some reason, they work so well together.

I think this volume is great and I can’t wait to start the next book sometime soon as I seem to prefer the book more than the movie. Give the novel a read I am sure you won’t regret it.
